Welcome to the list

Dear All,

as a follow up of the Second OSS Conference in Hanoi, and our meeting this
week, I've setup this mailing list to facilitate easier communication.

It runs on the isoc-vn.org domain because
1) It was the easiest/fastest way for me to setup an archived mailing list.
2) OSS fits to ISOC's mission
"To assure the open development, evolution, and use of the Internet
for the benefit of all people throughout the world"
Proprietary Software limits the access to the Internet (with all the
opportunities for developing countries), and OSS is a viable alternative.
And since a PC user will not switch to OSS, unless there is basic other SW
(like an office package) available, it fits also ISOC's mission to care
about other essential Open Source SW (like office applications).

So far to the possible question "Why use the isoc-vn domain for an OSS list?".

As a start-up, I've subscribed those who were at the meeting at EC premises
yesterday, plus Lars who could not come. Who are missing at least, IMHO, are:
- contact(s) to VAIP (because of their country-wide training facilities)
- contact(s) to Universities (Bac Khoa Hanoi?
Thang Long University? University Can Tho? ...)
- contact(s) to Vietnamese Linux User groups

The easiest way for people to subscribe, is to use the following link:
http://www.isoc-vn.org/cgi-bin/mojo272/mojo.cgi?f=s&l=oss

Alternatively, I can subscribe people manually.

The proposed "Mission Statement" for this list is:
"To facilitate discussions and information exchange on how to support and
promote the introduction of Open Source Software in Vietnam."
Pls. do feel free to change/edit/amend this.

I propose to wait a few days to allow more subscriptions, before we start
do discuss the first issues.

Best Regards,
Stefan

PS: BTW... this list runs on an OSS mailing list SW (mojo mail with minor
modifications done by myself) and an OSS OS: FreeBSD....
