http://english.vietnamnet.vn/tech/2007/05/699418/ Sun shares its technology with Vietnam’s open source community 10:27' 27/05/2007 (GMT+7) VietNamNet Bridge – Sun Microsystems has opened the source codes of its operating systems JavaSE, NetBeans, Solaris and is providing them free of charge for the community of IT developers of Vietnam. Naveen Asrani, Manager in charge of developers in Asia-Pacific of Sun Microsystems, announced this information at the 3rd Sun Developer Days in Hanoi on May 24. A similar event was held in HCM City today, May 25. Having come to Vietnam three times within the past 18 months, Mr Naveen Asrani commented that the community of Vietnamese developers had the fastest development speed in the region. Besides professional programmers, Sun has also introduced its open source codes to universities of Vietnam like the Technology University of the National University, the Hanoi University of Technology, the IT University and the International University of the National University. “Our goal is providing tools for programmers to create products to sell to users. The third users will have to use hardware and support software of Sun and we earn profit from those users,” Mr Naveen Asrani said. While software copyrights are being tightened in Vietnam, this is considered an opportunity for Vietnamese programmers to use open source codes to create software products without violating copyrights.
