Some new Linux links from Anderew -------- Original Message -------- Subject: ethnic minority languages Date: Mon, 25 Jul 2005 11:21:47 +1000 From: Andrew Cunningham <andrewc@vicnet.net.au> Organization: Public Libraries Unit, Vicnet, SLV To: vern.weitzel@undp.org Hi Vern, Some time ago (actually quite a while ago, we exchanged some emails regarding unicode support for vietnamese ethnic minority languages. At the time i wrote a quick keyboard layout for windows using Tavultesoft Keyman. A partial implementation, since i only had access to partial data on what characters were needed. And subsequently archived and remained forgotten on my harddisk. Rencently i've bene experimenting with Linux. A number of imput frameworks have been developed for Linux. One of them is SCIM (http://www.scim-im.org/). Recently i started experiemnting with KMFL (http://sourceforge.net/projects/kmfl), an opensource project that allows the source files for Tavultesoft Keyman to be used with SCIM on Linux. This combined with a numbe rof other projects could provide an interesting solution for Vietnamese ethnic minorities.
