Intel helps Vietnam in open source development

Vietnam and hardware giant Intel on Thursday signed a deal on an open source development project.

Under the agreement, Intel will establish an open source development laboratory (OpenSource Lab) in
Vietnam, train local open source programmers, support a number of local firms to access open source
technologies and tools, consult on matters concerning open source applications and help increase the
community’s awareness of open source applications.

The agreement on the General Project of Vietnam Open Source Application and Development was signed
in Hanoi by Intel representatives and Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology.

According to Intel Vietnam Chief Than Trong Phuc, the term of the deal is two years, but can be
extended if the partners find more common interests.

Intel, however, has not revealed any detailed plan concerning the roadmap and investment for the
project.

The chip maker will announce specific plans in three months, Mr. Phuc said.
