IOSN has produced a primer on Free/Open Source Software and Education and a publication copy of the primer is now available for download. International Open Source Network (IOSN) is an initiative of the United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) Asia Pacific Development Information Programme (APDIP). This primer covers the use of FOSS from schools to universities. It provides a brief overview of how it can help in setting up the IT infrastructure and administration of educational institutions and considers software (mainly proprietary) which is now used as the basis for IT curricula and alternative FOSS which is available. This primer is intended to help policy-makers and decision-makers understand the potential use of FOSS in Education - where and how it can be used, why it should be used, and what issues are involved. In particular, officials in ministries of education, school and university administrators, academic staff and researchers should find this primer useful. FOSS: Education primer can be downloaded from the IOSN site at: http://www.iosn.net/education/foss-education-primer The primer is intended to be a living document, constantly updated to reflect the latest information and available to all. It is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 license and should always be available from the IOSN website. This primer is part of a series of primers on Free/Open Source Software brought to you by IOSN. These are available online at http://www.iosn.net/foss-primers
