The "effective" URL is http://www.unece.org/cefact/ And I like that one: <quote> Group D - Measures relating to promotion and use of standards FORMALITIES D.1 Standards and certification systems should not create obstacles to trade GATT Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade, Article 2 - "2.1. Parties shall ensure that technical regulations and standards are not prepared, adopted or applied with a view to creating obstacles to international trade ... They shall likewise ensure that neither technical regulations nor standards themselves nor their application have the effect of creating unnecessary obstacles to international trade." <unquote> And I understand this "standardization" issue now a bit better. The standards e.g. say, that in eCommerce "1 m" should have the meaning of "1 Metre". See e.g. http://www.unece.org/cefact/rec/rec20/rec20_2001_%2001cf20.pdf, page 5. A really important standard. It is probably pure coincidence, that until now I usually order at least once per month something via eCommerce, without caring about any of those standards, and still never experience any problems.
