Dear All, now, that we have all that relevant/important people "on board", may I repeat my concern of a few weeks ago: Right now it seems, that there is a number of individuals, companies and institutions /taking/ from the FLOSS sources, but it seems to me, that nearly nobody in Vietnam /contributes back/ to it. Free Software is about "Sharing", which means not only "taking", but also "giving". There are surely several reasons: - language skills (and fears, that the limited ones would not be enough) - habits (communicating and giving to absolutely unknown strangers) - ... I wonder, whether one reason is, that people are not used to handle the often-used CVS system (see an explanation below)? Sure, the instructions can be found in the Net, but - face it - to have somebody explaining it and walking together through the steps is different from reading some instructions: Most of what you learn at University could also be read in some books ... If a lack of familiarity with the CVS system is really a reason, then I would propose to work with the "education subgroup" of this list on how to overcome that problem, e.g. by inviting somebody to travel to some Universities etc., stay there for a few days, and teach lecturers and students the "HOWTO"... I would be especially interested in feedback to this question from the Universities and those companies who do some OSS programming already. Best Regards, Stefan Here some info about the CVS: >About CVS > >CVS (Concurrent Versions System) is a tool used by many software >developers to manage changes within their source code tree. CVS provides >the means to store not only the current version of a piece of source code, >but a record of all changes (and who made those changes) that have >occurred to that source code. Use of CVS is particularly common on >projects with multiple developers, since CVS ensures changes made by one >developer are not accidentally removed when another developer posts their >changes to the source tree. > >Information about accessing this CVS repository may be found in our >document titled, "Basic Introduction to CVS and SourceForge.net (SF.net) >Project CVS Services". > >In order to access a CVS repository, you must install a special piece of >software called a CVS client; CVS clients are available for most any >operating system.
