List Info - posting technicalities

Dear All,

... just in case you have problems to post to the list ...

I am using MojoMail as list software. About a year ago, I was looking for
an easy to use system and found that one to be the one which came the
closest to my requirements:
- easy to install, not too many "user rights requirements"
(i.e. no need for root access)
- web based administration as far as somehow possible
- archives
- group features (i.e. not only one-to-many announcements)

It replaces thus the standard combination of the three packages
"MajorDomo", "MajorCool", "MHonArc" in a single package and is MUCH easier
to use.

MojoMail is still in ongoing development, and thus has still a few
shortcomings. The two main ones are:
1) The list address is case sensitive.
Means: you have to post to <oss@isoc-vn.org>.
Mail to <OSS@isoc-vn.org> will simply disappear without any error message.
2) There is no mail-loop emergency break.
If somebody has a "stupid" auto-responder, which uses exactly the same
sender address and sends exactly back to where it came from, i.e. the list,
then you get an annoying mail loop.

I reported both issues to the developer, but the "beauty" of Free SW is,
that if you want to have features, you need money like for proprietary SW.
He considers both issues not urgent enough to spend his time on - as long
as he does not get paid for.

Yes, I could hack and look to include the features by myself. In fact, I
did exactly that and changed some issues in the first versions, and even
with the present one (because e.g. the "reply-to" still does not work
correctly), but I am tired of repeating that each time there is a new
version out.

As soon as the "case sensitivity issue" is fixed and/or a mail-loop break
is built in, I will upgrade and inform you. In the meanwhile, pls. be
careful about how you write the list's eMail addresses - and be careful
with auto-responders.

Cheers,
Stefan
