Re: [OSS] Re: Vietnamese experience with CVS or similar

Richard, all,

there was - and probably is still ongoing - a debate on what to favour:
localize an existing "international" distro (RedHat, Mandrake, etc.), or
make an own one (like RedFlag in China).

In general, I prefer to localize eg. Mandrake (which is in fact done
already) over an own Vietnamese one.

However, if the Vietnamese distro is done in "Debian style", i.e. as a
community project, i.e. not by a single company, then there are some
distinct advantages:
- Training for students etc. on how to participate in such a project
with the hope that they use that knowledge then also on other projects.
- Fostering of the spirit of sharing.

So maybe we should aim at both:
- a localized "international" distro like Mandrake with target for businesses,
which need a stable supply
- an "own" community distro for geeks, etc.

Question "only": Who would be willing and able to coach such a project?

My 300 VND (about 2 cents)

Stefan
